True Understanding

Have you ever wondered why some believers seem to live in constant victory while others struggle with fear and uncertainty? The difference often lies in one simple yet profound thing—understanding. Just as a person’s ability to enjoy the benefits of citizenship depends on knowing their rights, a believer's ability to walk in the fullness of their potential depends on their grasp of who they are in Christ. Without this understanding, we may live far below the level of freedom and authority that has been freely given to us. But with it, we step into a life of purpose, confidence, and dominion.

As believers, a true understanding of our rights and privileges in Christ is a tremendous asset that empowers us to live to our full potential. At the heart of this understanding is the recognition of Christ's finished work and His jurisdiction over our lives.

Consider the role of a law enforcement officer. Within his assigned territory, he has the authority to uphold the law, make arrests, and exercise his duties. However, once he steps into another country, his authority is rendered powerless. If he attempts to act as though he still has jurisdiction, he can even be arrested for trespassing—because he no longer has the legal right to exercise that power.

In the same way, believers who have been translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light are no longer under the dominion of the enemy. Before our salvation, the devil had a legal hold on us, as we were under his jurisdiction. But now, in Christ, he has no legal right to exercise authority over us. Any attempt on his part to do so would be an act of trespassing.

However, imagine that same officer visits a foreign land and, despite having no legal authority, intimidates the people. If they are unaware of their rights, they might submit to his threats. This scenario mirrors what happens to believers who lack understanding of their authority in Christ. The devil will attempt to intimidate, but it’s only effective if we are unaware of our rights and authority in Christ.

This is why true understanding is essential. We must always remember who we are in Christ Jesus. If we forget, the enemy will exploit our fears and uncertainties. Yet, the truth is, we are seated with Christ far above all principalities and powers. This consciousness must be alive in us at all times, enabling us to exercise our dominion as citizens of this new kingdom.

I know who I am in Christ. I walk confidently in this understanding, fully aware of my new status in Him. Hallelujah!
